NEW YORK (PIX11) – Despite all its perks, the spiritual discipline of yoga could be intimidating to many guys especially in a room full of women.
So where could average bros who are craving the benefit of the 3,000-year-old practice go?
Broga, of course.
The new fitness trend is growing in popularity at gyms across the country and at Crunch Gym locations in New York. Broga focuses more on the physical instead of the spiritual, letting even the most macho of men work it all out.
“Broga offers a lot more power element to it,” explained Justin Flexen, a Broga trainer at Crunch. “We do a lot of push-ups and we focus on upper body strength [as well as] those body parts that may be a little weaker especially for guys.”
First introduced in 2009 by Massachusetts-based yoga instructor Robert Sidoti, Broga allows men to release tight hamstrings “without hearing invocations to Hindu deities or feeling inept next to a woman twisted like a pretzel,” Reuters recently reported.
“I think with Broga guys come in feeling a lot more at ease,” Flexen told PIX11 News. “We don’t do a lot of mantras, there’s no chanting, nothing like that. We play rock music and it’s a lot of fun.”
