UNION SQUARE, N.Y. (PIX11)– Police released new images of an armed attacker who tried to steal from a 24-year-old woman in Union Square nearly two weeks ago.
The incident happened on 78 Fifth Ave. on a April 7 night.
Authorities say the man followed the victim into an elevator, where he then brandished his weapon and told her to take him up to her apartment and give her cash.
When she said she was going to a yoga class in the building, he told her to go with him to an ATM and withdraw cash there, according to police.
The culprit allegedly told the victim if she screamed, he would shoot and kill her.
He grabbed her hand and led her out of the building to hail a cab, police said. As the taxi pulled up to the curb, the woman broke free of her attacker’s grasp and ran into a nearby CVS for help. The man ran away, too, empty handed.
The attacker is described as a man between 45 and 50 years old. He was last seen wearing a dark sweatshirt, dark sweatpants and carrying a dark messenger bag.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
