MILLER PLACE, Long Island (PIX11) — A 20-year-old man was arrested and charged with DWI after crashing into a house on Long Island early Saturday morning.

Gerard Tegins was traveling southbound on Harrison Avenue in Miller Place around 2:30 a.m. when he failed to stop at a stop sign at Parkside Avenue and lost control of the 2002 Hyundai SUV he was driving, Suffolk County police said.

Tegins then traveled across several lawns and crashed into the living room of the home at 352 Parkside Ave., causing extensive damage.

Tegins was transported to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital and treated for minor injuries. There were no additional passengers in the car. The occupants of the home were not injured.

Tegins will be arraigned in Central Islip today.
