BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) — It’s still a mystery who was the mystery woman found dead in Brooklyn last month, but on Wednesday police released a photo that could help crack the case using a specific clue: a tattoo on the deceased’s leg.

The woman’s body was found about 6:25 p.m. on March 22 near Shore Parkway and 26 Avenue, police said. So far, investigators only know that the deceased is a woman, probably between 25 and 45 years old.

But she is carrying what could be a vital clue to learning her name.

A tattoo on the woman’s right leg — it appears to a rose and the name “Monique” written within a heart — may be able to lead police to her identity, NYPD said. They released a photo of the tattoo along with an artist’s rendering of what it may have looked when like was freshly inked, asking for the public’s help.

The woman’s cause of death is still under investigation.

Anyone with information in the case is urged to call NYPD’s anonymous Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
