FIFE, Wash. (PIX11) – “I don’t always violate the HOV lane law . . . but when I do, I get a $124 ticket,” a Washington State public information officer tweeted after troopers caught a carpool scofflaw driving around with “The Most Interesting Man in the World” next to him.

The motorcycle trooper pulled over a vehicle driving in the HOV lane along Interstate 5 near Tacoma after noticing something slightly odd (read: two-dimensional) about his passenger.  It turned out to be a cardboard cutout of the actor Jonathan Goldsmith, from the popular Dos Equis beer commercials.

When asked who was sitting next to him, the driver told the trooper, “He’s my best friend.”

The trooper later said it was one of the best scams he had seen, and didn’t confiscate “The Most Interesting Man in the World.”  The driver was warned not to give a lift to his “best friend” again.
