THE BRONX (PIX11) — A homeless man was killed apparently while standing in between cars on a moving subway trying to urinate, officials said Wednesday.
It happened about 6:45 a.m. March 8, police said. The victim’s name has not been released because his family still needs to be notified.
His body was found on the tracks at the Pelham Bay Park station along the 6 line, police said. A friend told police the victim went in between subway cars to urinate but never came back inside. Police said it is “assumed that he fell between the cars.”
News of the man’s death comes days after another straphanger was killed while moving between moving subway cars.
In that case, a 54-year-old woman was found dead Monday beneath a 1 train in Manhattan. Police said she was walking between cars when she lost her footing, slipped onto the tracks and was hit.
More dangerous underground behavior was highlighted Tuesday when a photo began to make the rounds showing three children clinging to the outside of a train, quickly accelerating as it moved out of the 96th Street station on the Upper West Side.
Walking between cars is strictly prohibited under the MTA’s Rules of Conduct 1050.9, which states that the only time it’s allowed to pass between cars is “in an emergency or when directed to do so by an Authority conductor or a New York City police officer.”
