PANAMA CITY, Fla. (PIX11) — Authorities have identified the young woman in a viral photo that sparked concerns for her safety.
The Panama City News Herald reports that the 17-year-old contacted authorities after seeing the photo. Bay County Sheriff’s officials were trying to track her down, fearing she was in danger.
Bay County Sheriff’s officials were trying to identify the woman after two photos were posted to Twitter on March 11. Both photos have since been removed.
The teen says her interaction with the crowd was consensual, but she did not know her picture was being taken. The young woman, who lives in the southern part of the U.S., was on “spring break” vacation but is not currently enrolled in college.
One photo depicts the young woman, wearing nothing more than several beaded necklaces and sunglasses, trying to cover herself as a group of unknown men surround her. No descriptive landmarks can be seen in the background.
Another photo posted within a few minutes of the other one showed the woman dancing nude at the edge of the Gulf of Mexico.
