LAKE RONKONKOMA, Long Island (PIX11) — Police officers rescued a dog that fell through the ice of a Suffolk County pond Thursday afternoon.

911 received a call just after 4 p.m. of a dog falling through the ice and into the water of Spectacle Pond in Lake Ronkonkoma. Suffolk County police officers Daniel Coan, Gerry Sheridan, Walter Justincic and Michael Simpson responded to the scene, and Officer Coan — wearing an exposure suit — waded through an open section of the icy water to reach the black Labrador.

Coan broke the ice around the trapped dog, named Guinness, and carried it to shore.

Guinness was later reunited with its owner, who lives near the pond.
