NEW YORK (PIX11) -- St. Patrick’s day in New York City is one of the biggest party days of the year.

Whether people are Irish or Irish for the day, the parade route is packed and bars are filled to capacity. “Pretty big day for business, probably our biggest day of the year,” according to Pig N’ Whistle manager Aifric Darcy.

According to the National Retail Federation, Americans are expected to spend $4.6 billion on this holiday. And millions of revelers will be celebrating in bars and restaurants. It’s great for businesses in New York City, but not for people who live and work near the party hotspots.

“It’s going to get really bad on the train. On the subway, people are going to throw up all over the place,” Queens resident Shoaiv Qadri said.
