(PIX11)-- The Mayor's Office says Mayor Bill de Blasio's tardiness over the weekend was caused by official business.

De Blasio was getting heat over the weekend after arriving late to a St. Patrick's Day Parade in the Rockaways.

The Mayoral banner was carried 14 blocks in total before his arrival.

His Office blames an education policy meeting with senior staffers at Gracie Mansion that went long Saturday morning, according to NY Post.

It wasn't the first time the Mayor has been noticeably late to an engagement in the area.

In November, he missed a ceremonial moment of silence at the memorial for the 265 victims who died after American Airline Flight 587 crash landed in the Rockaways in 2001.

At the time, the Mayor blamed a bad night's rest for being tardy.

Once again, it folks in the Rockaways calling Mayor Bill de Blasio "disrespectful."
