4 workers injured after Newark chemical warehouse explosion

NEWARK, N.J. (PIX11) -- A worker missing for hours after an explosion at a chemical warehouse in New Jersey has been pulled from the rubble alive.

The explosion happened at about 5 p.m. inside the building at Doremus Avenue in Newark. The subsequent fire reached two alarms.

The worker was rescued at about 8:20 p.m. and is being taken for decontamination of chemicals, then will be transported to an area hospital.

Another worker was taken St. Barnabus Hospital in Livingston with burns. Two others, one seriously injured, were taken to University Hospital in Newark.

The fire is mostly extinguished. The fire department and the Department of Environmental Protection is on the scene identifying the chemicals involved.
