ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (PIX11) — A Florida mother and her baby were killed in an off-roading accident when their Jeep got stuck in the mud.

But it wasn’t the crash that killed them.

According to WFTV, Troopers say Hallie Lewis, 22, Taylor Brown, 21, and their 5-month-old son, Brason, were off-roading in a wooded area Saturday when their Jeep and its exhaust got stuck in the mud.

While Brown was attempting to pull the vehicle out, Lewis and the baby became unresponsive inside. The two were taken to a local fire station, but it was too late.

Autopsy results are still pending, but authorities believe the two died of carbon monoxide poisoning. Troopers are still looking into how long the two were breathing in the fumes.
