CHICAGO (PIX11) -- A grandmother in Chicago was arrested after police say she sliced her baby's throat with a power saw.

The 9-month-old baby girl, named Rosie according to relatives, was found dead in the Little Village neighborhood around 9:40 a.m. Monday morning, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Authorities told the paper that a 52-year-old woman, who is reportedly the grandmother, used a circular saw to cut the baby's throat, apparently because the child wouldn't stop crying. The baby was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police say the woman, who  has not been identified, attempted suicide and was found by a relative. She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with self-inflicted wounds. She is now in police custody at the hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.
