LANCASTER, Calif. (PIX11) -- A nail salon in Southern California turned into a chaotic scene when a customer allegedly punched the owner who refused her request to paint her 1-year-old daughter's nails, officials said.

The brawl was caught on surveillance and cellphone cameras, which show the two women exchanging punches on Feb. 26 at a salon in the 1800 block of West Avenue I, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Salon owner Kathy Nguyen told PIX11 sister station KTLA it all started when a customer asked that she paint a 1-year-old girl's nails. She told the mother that the girl was too young to have her nails painted.

That's when Tawana Davis, 30, allegedly grabbed two bottles of polish off the shelf and started painting the girl's nails herself, Nguyen said.

When the salon owner tried to take back the polish, that's when Davis allegedly punched Nguyen.

But Davis said the situation unfolded differently, claiming that she brought her own polish to the salon that day and accusing Nguyen of striking her while she held her young daughter.

“When she hit me with my daughter in my hand, I felt like as long as she was still standing, me and my daughter were in danger,” Davis told KTLA.

The owner pushed a silent panic button, which called deputies to the scene. Davis was arrested on suspicion of robbery and released on $50,000 bail, sheriff's officials said.

Detective Mark Donnel said Nguyen suffered an eye injury and some of her hair was pulled out in the brawl.

Davis said her toddler was traumatized by the event and told KTLA that she plans to sue and wants the charges against her dropped.
