NEW YORK (AP) — New York City police are offering a $12,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a man who raped a 12-year-old girl on her way home from school in the Bronx.

Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce says the girl was transferring from one bus to another to get home from school at about 6 p.m. last week.

A man in a blue hooded sweatshirt pretended like he had a weapon in his pocket. He told her he’d kill her if she screamed. Then he forced her into an alley and raped her.

The girl called her mother, who contacted police.

The suspect is described as a man in his late teens. Police are still canvassing the area.

Anyone with information is asked to call the hotline at 877-577-TIPS.
