Stop & Shop recalls Sylvia’s Sizzlin’ Hot Spice for undeclared peanut allergen

NEW YORK (PIX11) — Stop & Shop is notifying customers of a voluntary recall by Sylvia’s Sizzlin’ Hot Spice which may contain a peanut allergen not listed on the ingredient label.

The company issued a statement Saturday that they have pulled the following product from the shelves.

Sylvia’s Sizzling Hot Spice, 5.5 oz., UPC 60862300051, with a lot code of 100217.

While no illnesses have been reported, people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if consuming the product. Customers who have purchased the hot spice should discard it and bring their receipt to Stop & Shop for a full refund.

Symptoms of a food allergy typically appear within a few minutes to two hours after a person consumes it. Allergic reactions can range from hives and flushed skin to difficulty breathing and loss of consciousness.
