ETNA, Maine (PIX11) — At least 14 people were injured in a car pileup involving over 40 vehicles on a snowy stretch of an interstate highway in Maine.

State police say the pileup happened in Etna Wednesday morning on a snow-covered part of Insterstate 95. The main crash involved 25 cars. There was a series of other wrecks leading to the crash site. Another car skid off the road trying to avoid the pileup.

One of the vehicles involved was a school bus carrying three passengers.

“The students were shaken up, but not injured,” state police said.

Eastern Main Medical Center received 11 patients in good to fair condition. Police say at least two of the injured are in serious condition.

Police say a fleet of wreckers are on the scene now working to clear up at least one lane.
