CHICAGO (PIX11) – A college student has been charged with sexually assaulting a coed during what he told police was a re-enactment of the erotic BDSM film "Fifty Shades of Grey."

Police said the alleged assault happened about 5:30 p.m. Saturday inside Mohammad Hossain’s University of Illinois Chicago dorm room. The 19-year-old suspect was with a 19-year-old woman with whom he had an intimate relationship in the past, according to a criminal complaint.

Hossain allegedly ordered the woman to take off her clothes, which she did. He then allegedly tied her up with belts, covered her eyes and struck her with a belt, PIX11 News sister station WGN reports.

When the woman told him to stop, Hossain allegedly punched her, held her down and raped her, prosecutors said, adding that the suspect allegedly kept him roommate from coming into the room during the ordeal.

Shortly after, the alleged victim left and called campus police. Hossain was arrested at another dorm later that night.

He allegedly told officers that the encounter was inspired by “Fifty Shades of Grey,” a film based on an erotic romance novel that traces the main characters' sexual relationship featuring bondage, dominance/submission and sadism/masochism, also known as BDSM.

Hossain contends that the incident in his dorm room was consensual.  He is being held on $500,000 bail and is due back in court March 13.
