TUCSON, Ariz. (PIX11) — A man in Tuscon was left wheelchair bound and almost paralyzed after being attacked by a machete-wielding ex-boyfriend of a woman he met online.

Erik Schumann, 28, told Tuscon News Now that he was attacked during the second date with the woman in December 2014. Schumann said he had just moved to the area and was looking for a way to meet new people. So, after signing up for several dating sites, the man reportedly put a post on Craigslist.

The harmless, friendly post on Craigslist is what has left him wheelchair bound and almost paralyzed. The incident began when he met the woman who he says looked like a model. On their second date, they were at her midtown home around 3 a.m. when a man beat down the door and attacked the victim with a machete.

Schumann was reportedly cut with a 40-inch blade at least 31 times, according to his medical reports.

“He’s taken a lot more than my ability to walk and use my hands. He’s taken away my dreams and my goals, and ultimately a part of my soul,” said Schumann.

Tony Abrego, 31, was taken to jail on charges of attempt to commit first and second degree murder.

Erik Schumann says Tony Abrego attacked him with a machete.
