NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Due to ice, NY Waterway suspended East River Ferry service again on Tuesday.

It's been an icy time for ferry commuters this winter.  Ferry service was suspended for the second day in a row. It was the first full work day with no East River service, and the third suspension since Friday.

A spokesperson said this hasn't happened since it began to run in 2011.

There are more than 20 routes, and about 30,000 passengers in all for NY Waterway, according to a spokesperson.

A spokeswoman says NY Waterway says it hasn't seen this kind of ice in 28 years. Approximately 3-4 thousand ride the East River Ferry daily.

There have also been delays reported and cancellations on other ferry lines due to ice.
