UPPER WEST SIDE (PIX11) – ’50 Shades of Grey’ got so steamy the pipes burst,’ quipped one moviegoer on Instagram after an Upper West Side theater was drenched after a pipe apparently burst.

The cruelly-cold temperatures have been wreaking havoc throughout the city, with manhole covers flying off and water pipes breaking — and, Monday afternoon, the newly-renovated 84th Street AMC Theater became winter’s latest victim.

A pipe running to the overhead sprinklers buckled, according to reports, leaving several inches of standing water in the lobby.  The theater was renovated in 2013, and has become a hot spot for movie buffs after installing luxurious reclining chairs.

The manager closed the theater until 11 p.m. to clean up the mess.
