BROOKLYN (PIX1) — When I started producing the Mary Murphy Mystery segments for PIX11 News in October 2013, I hoped my work could help solve a case that was confounding the police and bring justice to a grieving family.

Now, one of my stories has solved a mystery that’s nearly forty years old and it’s making a huge difference in the life of a Brooklyn woman who didn’t know her real name, her mother, or even her date of birth until this past Friday. She basically knew that she was called “Millie” as a child. The girl was abandoned as a toddler in a real house of horrors.

The tattered birth certificate with the first name “Mildred” and the middle name “Lucia” is now in the woman’s possession, because her biological mother recently saw one of my Mystery reports.

The story aired a year ago this week.

On January 25 this year, I was waiting for a flight home from Tampa, Florida, when I received an e-mail from a woman in Pennsylvania.  The woman told me she had the proof to solve the mystery, nearly four decades old.

Please stay tuned for my special report this Thursday at 10 p.m., which follows Millie’s journey to the truth—and her mom.
