DEER PARK, N.Y. (PIX11) — A Long Island woman has been arrested after allegedly running over a pedestrian and fleeing the scene Saturday night.
Suffolk County police say an unidentified woman was crossing Deer Park Avenue at about 8:30 p.m. when she was struck by a blue Jeep Liberty that was traveling northbound. The driver initially stopped but fled the scene before police arrived.
Police Officer Kenneth Michaels observed the suspected vehicle on Deer Park Avenue south of the Long Island Expressway and pulled over the driver, 57 Irene Calderaro.
Calderaro has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and is awaiting arraignment.
