Nationwide gets backlash for Super Bowl ad about preventable accidents featuring dead child

NEW YORK (PIX11) — Twitter users are posting their distaste for a Nationwide commercial that ran during the Super Bowl discussing children’s safety.

The insurance company aired the commercial in the first half of the Super Bowl that shows a young boy talking about all of the things he’ll never be able to do.

The young boy lists things that he’ll never be able to do including ride a bike, get cooties or get married.

Then the commercial takes a dark turn.”I couldn’t grow up because I died from an accident,” he says with an open second floor window in the background.

Next the commercial shows several dangerous scenes including an overflowing bathtub and a fallen TV.

Over the video, text reads “the number one cause of childhood deaths is preventable accidents.

The commercial at the end has a link for the Make Safe Happen website.

The campaign is designed to keep kids safe from preventable accidents.

Right after airing, the commercial was met with harsh criticism.
