East Flatbush fire kills 49-year-old woman

EAST FLATBUSH, Brooklyn (PIX11) — A 49-year-old woman is dead and a 65-year-old man is injured after a fire broke out in Brooklyn early Sunday morning.

Firefighters responded to a fire at 216 E 89th St. in East Flatbush around 3:15 a.m. They removed the victims from the location after the fire was extinguished.

EMS transported the woman to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center for smoke inhalation, where she was pronounced dead. The man was transported to Kings County Hospital Center, also for smoke inhalation, where he is listed in stable condition.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The identity of the deceased is pending family notification.
