Mother, children sledding in Astoria Park allegedly discover man’s body

ASTORIA, Queens (PIX11) -- Police are investigating after a man was found fatally shot in his head and back inside Astoria Park Saturday afternoon.

NYPD responded to a report of an unconscious person inside of Astoria Park at 24-02 19th Street around 2:30 p.m.

Sources tell PIX11 that a mother was sledding with her children when they found a body inside the park. The 42-year-old man had two gunshot wounds -- one to his head and one to his back, according to NYPD. His identity has not been released.

The man was transported to Elmhurst Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
