NEW YORK (PIX11) —┬áPublic schools in New York City will be in session Wednesday, the mayor said.

Classes citywide were cancelled Tuesday while a winter storm continued to batter the region, hitting the eastern portion of Long Island especially hard but still managing to blanket the New York metro area with up to 10 inches of snow in some areas.

The storm rolled in the same week as New York City students were taking regents exams.

Monday’s regents were taken an hour early to accommodate a commute made difficult by snowy, windy storm. Regents exams scheduled for Tuesday will be taken on Thursday, New York City Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina said Monday afternoon.
