NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Popular DJ Cipha Sounds has parted ways with Hot 97.

Hot 97 released a statement Tuesday, saying Cipha Sounds, real name Luis Diaz, was no longer with the station.

"Effective immediately, Cipha Sounds is no longer with WQHT Hot 97 FM," the statement reads. "We wish him well on his future endeavors."

Cipha had been with the station for 17 years, and addressed the separation on Instagram.

"After 17 years, I'm leaving Hot 97. I¹m changing my relationship status from "it¹s complicated" to "single". It¹s been an amazing ride - from intern to
weekends to morning show host to fill Angie¹s seat in afternoons," Cipha captioned the photo of a broken Hot 97 logo. "
Many years of incredible, life-changing experiences and enough amazing memories to last five lifetimes. The next move is already underway and I promise it's going to be huge. Follow me at @ciphasounds."

It is speculated that Cipha was fired after criticizing the station for not giving him the afternoon slot, a slot he had filled in the interim after Angie "Voice of New York" Martinez left Hot 97 and went to competitor Power 105.1 last year.

Additionally, DJ Mister Cee left the station for an undisclosed reason.
