TAMPA BAY, Fla. (PIX11) — One lucky feline gave credence to the saying “Cats have 9 lives” when he seemingly came back from the dead after being buried alive for days.
The 2 to 3-year-old cat, named Bart, was hit by a car, according to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. Bart appeared to be lifeless and his owner buried him.
Miraculously, 5 days later, Bart turned up in a neighbor’s yard — alive.
Like a scene out of the film “Pet Sematary” (but with a much happier ending), Bart — who was severely weak and dehydrated — apparently dug himself out of his grave and tried to get home.
Unable to pay the veterinary fees for Bart’s recovery, his owner reached out to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay’s Animal Health Center, where he is now being treated for a broken jaw, open facial wounds and is having surgery to have his ruined eye removed.
Described as a “sweet little cat” by staff, Bart is expected to recover and return home.
