BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) — Nearly 2 years after the grisly discovery, a woman whose remains were found stuffed inside a burnt suitcase has been identified.

Erica Mcdaniel’s body was found March 23, 2013, police said Tuesday as they released her identity for the first time.

The 30-year-old’s remains were found inside a charred suitcase at 174 Hull St. in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn. A fire had occurred at that location a year earlier, in May 2012, police said.

The circumstances of Mcdaniel’s death were not immediately released, and there are still many questions surrounding the case.

Her last known New York City address was 1084 Bedford Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, police said. She had also lived in Kansas.

Police are asking anyone with information on the case to call their anonymous Crime Stoppers tipline at 800-577-TIPS.
