NEW YORK (PIX11) -- This week, New York City began its municipal ID program, the largest of its kind in the nation.

It will give all ID card holders access to one-year free membership packages at 33 of the city's leading cultural institutions, including museums, performing arts centers, concert halls, botanical gardens and zoos in all five boroughs.

Available to anyone 14 years or older, the IDs connect New Yorkers to other services, too, like opening a bank account, regardless of their immigration status, homeless status or gender identity.
