EVANSVILLE, Ind. (PIX11/AP) — An Indiana couple faces charges after investigators say they found cell phone videos showing the woman’s 12-month-old daughter putting a handgun in her mouth.
Evansville police discovered the videos after 19-year-old Michael L. Barnes was arrested for trying to sell a handgun to an undercover officer on Facebook, according to the Courier Press.
Police say Barnes and the toddler’s 22-year-old mother, Toni Wilson, can be heard encouraging the toddler to say “pow” and that no one tried to stop the toddler as she put the gun in her mouth.
Police say the mother told officers the girl was holding a pellet gun; investigators say it was a .40-caliber handgun.
They say the gun’s magazine appeared to be removed but it’s not clear if ammunition was in the chamber.
The 1-year-old and the couple’s 1-month-old twins were placed into emergency care Friday. Barnes is reportedly not the father of the toddler, but is the father of the twins.
Both Barnes and Wilson face charges including child neglect and recklessness with a deadly weapon.
