MASSAPEQUA, Long Island (PIX11) -- It's not your typical backyard scene: an ice rink in a Massapequa Park backyard.

The Galanoudis family is a hockey family. Pete Galanoudis is a local hockey coach, and also a big hickey fan.

Galanoudis told PIX11 News that it took him about 20 hours, collectively, to build the ice rink in his backyard.

It's the fifth year he's doing this, and it's getting more and more popular.

"I took a lot of pride in the conditions in the ice so it's in pretty good condition, usually," said Galanoudis.

Galanoudis says "the rink is about 53 feet by 14 feet."

"It's a neighborhood hot spot or better yet, cool spot, for practice and for fun," said Zoe Galanoudis. "It's a lot of fun to play with friends."
