MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) — A worker was killed Friday when they were involved in an elevator accident in Manhattan, emergency officials said.

It happened about 11:20 a.m. Friday at 75 West End Ave., a residential apartment building near West 63rd Street.

Two workers were inside the elevator shaft, with one either inside or on top of the elevator car, an official at the scene told PIX11 News. The other was underneath the elevator, between the first and second floors.

For reasons not yet known, the elevator moved, crushing the worker who was beneath the car.

One worker was pronounced dead at the scene and the other refused medical attention, an EMS official said.

The victim was identified by police as a 30-year-old man.

An investigation is ongoing.
