WYANDANCH, New York (PIX11) – The Ronkonkoma line of the LIRR was suspended after an east-bound train struck a livery car Wednesday afternoon, critically injuring the driver and the passenger.
Around 2:50 p.m. service was restored, according to a post by the railroad.
The preliminary report is the gates were down and the car attempted to go around it west of the Wyandanch Station.
The driver of the car was airlifted to an area hospital.
LIRR released new public service announcements about the dangers at railroad crossings last year.
