BRIARWOOD, Queens (PIX11) -- In Queens on Tuesday night, on the day Mario Cuomo was laid to rest, residents were remembering the former New York State Governor who was born and raised in Queens.

At the Flagship Diner in Briarwood, Queens, residents shared their feelings with us on Mario Cuomo.

John Thomas followed the career of the late Governor and admired him.

On New Year's Day, the three-term, New York State Governor, 82-year old Mario Cuomo died just hours after his son Andrew's inauguration for his second term. Mario Cuomo did not attend. At his Funeral, Tuesday, his son eulogized him.

Dr. Anthony Tamburri is the Dean of The  John D. Calandra Italian American Institute of Queens College located in Manhattan.

Tamburri told us their paths had crossed numerous times. Mr. Cuomo inspired him, he told us.

And back in Queens, resident John Denegall told us he'll always remember Mario.

"I'm just happy he's a kid from Queens," said John Denegall.
