Police looking for driver in fatal New Year’s Eve hit-and-run in Morningside Heights

MORNINGSIDE HEIGHTS, Manhattan (PIX11) — Police are looking for the driver of a dark colored Land Rover/Range Rover who struck and killed a woman on the Upper West Side Wednesday evening.

Police say that around 6 p.m. on Dec. 31, 44-year-old Guler Ugur-Yaacobi of Brooklyn was crossing east on West 113th Street near Amsterdam Avenue when she was struck by an SUV traveling north on Amsterdam. The driver then fled the scene.

Ugur-Yaacobi was taken to Saint Luke’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police have released video of the car, which they say has damage to the right front passenger headlight and bumper.
