MANHATTAN (PIX11) — As thousands waited for the ball drop in Times Square, another group of people counted down to a 4-mile run in Central Park.

The New York Road Runners kicked off the new year with the Midnight Run — and event that began at 10 p.m. and included dancing and a 15-minute fireworks show.

After counting down to midnight, participants embarked on a 4-mile run in Central Park’s “inner loop.” They started on the 72nd Street Transverse, passed Engineers’ Gate and the Reservoir, and then finished off west of Bethesda Terrace.

Prize money was given to the first three runners to cross the finish line, as well as the top three men and women to complete the run.

Great job, runners! Happy New Year! #MidnightRun
