THROGGS NECK, The Bronx (PIX11) - After an emotionally disturbed man barricaded himself inside a Bronx home, police say they found a woman's body and three injured people inside the residence.

Officers found the 48-year-old "acting erratically" outside the Hollywood Avenue home after receiving a 911 call just before 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

"I just heard somebody screaming, somebody yelling," said neighbor John Slattery, 24.  "We come to the front of the house and we see someone sitting on their balcony throwing everything but the kitchen sink at the cops who were across the street."

After seeing the police, he retreated back inside the house and barricaded himself inside a rear bedroom.

Emergency Service Unit officers responded to the scene and were able to place the man in custody, but while searching the house they found the body of a woman identified as 87-year-old Alice Durso.  She had signs of physical trauma to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This guy was huge," Slattery said, "If he came after her there was no way she could have done anything to stop him."

Officers also found a three other people inside the residence: a 55-year-old man with signs of head trauma, a 67-year-old woman with an injury to her arm and a 56-year-old woman who had been slashed in the face.

All three are now at Jacobi Hospital in stable condition, along with the suspect who will be treated and evaluated.

A police investigation is ongoing.
