HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Metro-North is forbidding passengers from drinking alcohol on the New Year's holiday.

The commuter railroad says alcohol consumption will be banned on the trains and at stations from noon Wednesday to noon on New Year's Day.

It also says it will reduce morning and evening peak service on Wednesday and provide extra evening inbound service and additional outbound service after midnight.

On New Year's Day, Metro-North will operate a special holiday schedule with hourly service on most line segments. Extra service is planned for outer New Haven Line service and regular weekend service on branch lines.

Metro-North will operate a Saturday schedule on Friday with additional morning and evening outbound trains.
