All lanes of LIE reopen after car-carrying tractor trailer overturns

QUEENS (PIX11)-- A tractor trailer overturned on Long Island Expressway near Exit 24. snarling traffic during the Tuesday morning commute.

All eastbound lanes were closed between Kissena Boulevard and Main Street as of 7 a.m., according to aerial views of the scene. By 8:30 a.m., all eastbound lanes had been reopened.

Westbound lanes were briefly closed.

Drivers were diverted off Utopia Parkway exit and taken through a service-road detour to get around the crash and back onto the expressway heading east.

The status of the tractor trailer's driver is unclear, and it was not immediately known if more vehicles were involved.

The overturned truck was transporting crushed cars, which spilled out onto the roadway and are being cleared.
