MANHATTAN (PIX11) — The gifts are open and wrapping paper is cleaned up. Time to relax. Right?

Nope! Not for bargain hunters. The day after Christmas is considered the second biggest shopping day of the year.

Amy Nolan, in New York from Ireland, planned to take advantage of the sales before returning home. How will she get it all home? "Empty suitcases, literally empty suitcases. I hope customs doesn't stop me," Nolan said.

Retailers offer big sales in stores and online. Many even open their doors early. Macy's in Herald Square opened at 6 a.m. It was filled with shoppers soon after.

"My mom wanted to get all the specials soon because she said it's all going to run out early," New Yorker Catherine Henriquez said.

The final numbers are not in yet, but according to the National Retail Federation, this will likely be a good holiday season for retailers.

In addition to sales and the urge to return unwanted gifts, gifts cards are expected to bring shoppers back to stores Friday.
