Abandoned dog found covered in urine, feces on side of Long Island road

SUFFOLK COUNTY (PIX11) — An abandoned dog was found near death on the side of a road on Long Island Sunday, Suffolk County SPCA officials said.

The Silky and Yorkie Terrier-type dog was found in Brentwood inside a cage on the side of Candlewood Road. He was extremely matted and covered in feces and urine.

Upon further examination at a 24-hour veterinary hospital, the dog was found be emaciated with open sores on his body. The hungry dog only weighed 4.6 pounds. He needed aggressive medical attention and was also near death, according to Chief Roy Gross.

The Suffolk County SPCA is offering a $2,000 award for anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for abandoning the dog.
