17 injured after school bus crashes into building in Queens

QUEENS (PIX11) -- A school bus carrying 14 students crashed into a building in Queens just before rush hour Friday evening, causing several  injuries.

"At this time of day, this crowded intersection, very lucky," said FDNY Captain Lawrence Puzack.

The collision happened around 4:28 p.m. near the intersection of Woodside Avenue and 59th Street in Woodside, Queens.

DOE officials said there were no reported student injuries.

Officials say the driver did sustain injuries, and was taken to a local hospital.

There were two adults with serious non-life threatening injuries, according to EMS. Two adults with sustained minor injuries and one child was injured.

EMS said all five people were taken to Elmhurst Hospital from the scene.

The cause of the accident, officials said, is under investigation.
