WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (PIX11) — When 911 dispatchers in Utah figured out who was several times a minute — nearly 4000 times — they surprised him with a gift instead of punishment.

“At first, I admit it, we were pretty mad. ‘We’ve got to find who this person is. This is ridiculous,’”dispatcher Kair Bueno told KSL.

It turns out, the mystery caller was 30-year-old David VanBibber.

VanBibber is mentally challenged, and functions like an 8 year old, according to his family.

He was simply trying to listen to music on a disconnected cell phone, and the 911 calls happened accidentally.

Dispatchers decided to give VanBibber an iPod and an iTunes gift card to enjoy.

“It creates a lot of solace for him,” VanBibber’s father Steven told the station.
