HICKSVILLE, Long Island (PIX11) — Police arrested a man on Long Island after they discovered a gun on him while investigating him for marijuana possession Saturday night.

Nassau County officers were on routine patrol at the Broadway Mall in Hicksville on 955 Broadway when they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming form a 2006 Ford Fusion. As the officers approached the car, they saw Harold V. Villieres, 30, of 474 Newbridge Rd., smoking what appeared to be marijuana and pass it to the driver, Shameka McCreary, 29, of 275 44th St in Copiague.

The officers moved even closer and saw a small sandwich bag filled with what they believed to be marijuana between Villieres’ legs and asked him to exit the car.

While placing him under arrest, the officers found a .40-caliber Sig Saner gun on Villieres’ waistband, who struggled with the officers for a brief time. He and McCreary were placed under arrest.

McCreary is charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana and will be arraigned on Jan. 2. Villieres is charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and resisting arrest.
