BAY SHORE, N.Y. (PIX11) — Suffolk County police have arrested a man who stole a car from a Bay Shore parking lot, fatally striking the car owner.

Edwin Gutierrez, 48, was arrested Friday in connection to the fatal carjacking at a 711 on Pine Aire Drive on Nov. 28 that left 69-year-old Doniel Ramirez dead.

Police say Ramirez was picking up donated food that he was going to drop off at a soup kitchen.

When Ramirez returned back to his car, police say Gutierrez jumped into the drivers seat and tried taking off.

Ramirez tried to stop Gutierrez who then ran him over and fled the scene.

Gutierrez was arrested and charged with murder, robbery and attempted grand larceny.

He will be arraigned Sunday morning at the First District Court in Central Islip.
