STATEN ISLAND (PIX11) — A drunk driver fell asleep at the wheel on Thanksgiving, forcing commuters to maneuver around his stationary car in the middle of a highway.

Farrell Markis, 39, of Allentown, Pennsylvania  fell asleep at the wheel in the middle of Route 440 on Staten Island

When officers from Port Authority got to the scene at 2 p.m. Thursday, they found other cars moving around the Markis’ vehicle.

Cops say they found an open beer can in Markis’ cup holder.

Police woke up Markis and performed a sobriety test, which he failed. Upon further investigation, authorities found Markis’ license had been suspended some 27 times.

Markis was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.
