(CNN) — Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is recovering after heart surgery Wednesday morning.

The Supreme Court judge went to the hospital Tuesday night after she “experienced discomfort during routine exercise,” the court said in a statement Tuesday.

Ginsburg, 81, underwent a coronary catherization procedure at a Washington hospital in order to place a stent in her right coronary artery.

“She is resting comfortably and is expected to be discharged in the next 48 hours,” the statement said.
