Two men killed in double homicide in Irvington

IRVINGTON, N.J. (PIX11) -- Two men were fatally shot Saturday evening in Irvington in what police are calling a double homicide.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Irvington Police Director Tracy Bowers said the two victims were shot while walking in the 600 block of Chancellor Avenue around 5:30 p.m.

One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other victim was taken to University Hospital in Newark where he was pronounced dead.

The victims were later identified as 20-year-old Shaquille Kirkland of Irvington and 20-year-old Dashawn James also of Irvington.

The investigation is active and being investigated by the Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force.
